Tragic Incident in Greater Noida Hostel Claims BTech Student's Life
A second-year BTech student allegedly died by suicide early on Saturday morning after jumping from the fourth floor of his hostel in Greater Noida's Knowledge Park area. The incident occurred following a reprimand from hostel management regarding alcohol consumption, according to police officials.
Details of the Fatal Incident
The deceased has been identified as Udit Soni, a native of Jhansi district who was pursuing his engineering studies in Greater Noida. Police reports indicate that on Friday night, Soni returned to his hostel in Knowledge Park 3 with two friends after consuming alcohol.
"On Friday night, Udit Soni, a second-year BTech student and resident of Jhansi district, returned to his hostel with his friends Chetan and Kuldeep after consuming alcohol," stated Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Greater Noida) Sudhir Kumar.
Sequence of Events Leading to Tragedy
The hostel management reportedly reprimanded the student for his behavior and took the additional step of sending a video recording of the incident to his father, Vijay Soni. Upon receiving the video, Vijay Soni called his son, scolded him severely, and threatened to bring him back home from the hostel immediately.
"Distressed by the incident, the student jumped from the fourth floor of the hostel. He was immediately taken to the hospital, where he was declared dead," Kumar explained regarding the tragic outcome.
Immediate Response and Investigation
Following the incident, Udit Soni was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him dead upon arrival. Family members of the deceased arrived at the scene shortly after being informed of the tragedy.
Police officials confirmed that the body has been sent for post-mortem examination after completion of necessary legal formalities. Two individuals have been taken into custody in connection with the matter as authorities continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the student's death.
