President Draupadi Murmu could not reach Jalandhar on Friday. Thick fog around the Adampur airbase forced the cancellation of her planned visit. She was scheduled to attend the convocation ceremony at the National Institute of Technology.
Governor Steps In to Chair the Event
In the President's absence, Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria took charge. He presided over the convocation at NIT Jalandhar. The ceremony proceeded smoothly under his leadership.
Degrees and Medals Awarded to Students
The institute conferred degrees upon a total of 1,454 students. This large group included 1,011 BTech graduates, 237 MTech holders, 23 MBA recipients, 90 MSc scholars, and 92 PhD candidates.
In addition to degrees, the ceremony recognized academic excellence. Officials awarded 31 medals to top performers. This set comprised 30 discipline-wise medals and one special medal for the overall BTech topper.
Governor Praises NIT Jalandhar's Contributions
Governor Gulab Chand Kataria spoke highly of the institution. He described NIT Jalandhar as one of India's premier technical institutes. The governor noted that its alumni achieve significant success on global platforms.
"Students passing out from here bring laurels to our nation," Kataria stated. He emphasized that character building holds equal importance alongside academic degrees. According to him, both elements are crucial for nation-building.
The governor also commended the institute's work in research and innovation. He lauded its consistent contribution to producing world-class engineers for the country.
Despite the unexpected change in plans, the convocation ceremony concluded successfully. All scheduled events were completed, honoring the graduating students appropriately.
