GNDU Syndicate Approves Key Academic Reforms
The Syndicate meeting of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) convened on its campus on Tuesday, chaired by Vice-Chancellor Prof Karamjeet Singh. The meeting resulted in several crucial decisions regarding academic, administrative, and developmental matters.
A major highlight was the approval of a proposal to extend the "Developing Entrepreneurial Mindset" course to students enrolled in private, open and distance learning (ODL), and online modes. The university currently runs an "Entrepreneurship Mindset" course for undergraduate and five-year degree programmes. The new initiative will expand this to all distance learners from the 2026 academic session.
Prof Karamjeet Singh noted that the course aims to foster entrepreneurial thinking, innovation, and business skills, enabling students to launch new ventures. “This step will empower a wider student base with entrepreneurial capabilities,” he stated.
Amendments in Ordinances and Eligibility Criteria
Apart from academic promotions under the Career Advancement Scheme (CAS), the Syndicate considered amendments to ordinances and eligibility criteria for various programmes, including Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT), Master of Physiotherapy (MPT), LLB, BCom LLB, and BBA LLB. Decisions were also made regarding the appointment of a regulatory committee and related policy matters.
The Syndicate also discussed recommendations from various committees and approved measures to strengthen academic governance.
Research and Innovation Boost
Prof Karamjeet Singh reiterated the university’s commitment to enhancing research and innovation. He announced plans to expand the scope of seminars, lectures, and national and international conferences. Notably, the Department of Physics secured a prestigious grant under the National Quantum Mission to establish a quantum technology laboratory, placing GNDU among India’s top 23 institutions for quantum research.
Additionally, GNDU secured an international research project from HORIBA Ltd, Japan, furthering its global research footprint.
Global Rankings and Digital Enhancements
The Vice-Chancellor highlighted GNDU’s 78th global rank in the WURI “University Brand and Reputation” category. He also announced the launch of redesigned official and ODL websites to improve digital accessibility for students and stakeholders.
Academic and Cultural Events
Prof Singh underscored major seminars and lectures organized by the university, including the Nanak Singh Memorial Lecture, Gall Punjab Di conclave, Guru Ravidas events, Bharatiya Bhasha workshop, and quantum outreach programmes. These events reflect the university’s commitment to academic excellence and cultural enrichment.
