The push to transform India's academic landscape into a powerhouse of innovation gained significant momentum in Raipur on Tuesday. The Institution's Innovation Council (IIC) Regional Meet 2025, a pivotal event organized by the Ministry of Education's Innovation Cell (MIC) and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), successfully convened a diverse group of thinkers and doers from across the region.
Leadership Calls for a Paradigm Shift in Higher Education
In a compelling keynote address, Chhattisgarh Governor Shri Ramen Deka set the tone for the gathering. He emphatically stated that India's higher education institutions must urgently evolve beyond traditional teaching. The new vision, he outlined, is for these institutions to become active hubs dedicated to innovation, research translation, and entrepreneurial problem-solving. Governor Deka directly urged educators and administrators to inspire students to move beyond ideas and focus on converting them into solutions with scalable, real-world impact.
Echoing this sentiment, Technical Education Minister Guru Khushwant Saheb addressed the audience, highlighting critical themes for the nation's growth. His speech focused on the importance of fostering indigenous entrepreneurship, empowering student-led research initiatives, and developing sustainable business models rooted in innovation.
A Nationwide Movement for Educational Transformation
The event in Raipur was part of a synchronized national effort. Professor T G Sitharam, Chairman of AICTE, inaugurated not just one, but eight IIC regional meets across India in a virtual ceremony. The Raipur meet, hosted at SSIPMT, was held simultaneously with events in major cities including Tirunelveli, Vijayawada, Indore, Mumbai, Dehradun, Varanasi, Patna, Rajkot, and Bengaluru. This coordinated effort underscores the national scale and priority of the innovation agenda.
The Raipur chapter proved to be a major draw, attracting nearly 600 delegates. The participants formed a vibrant ecosystem in one room, comprising innovation ambassadors, startup founders, educators, and industry representatives. This mix facilitated crucial cross-pollination of ideas between academia and the commercial sector.

The conclave's discussions and directives point towards a concrete action plan for technical and higher education.
