University of Liverpool Gets Final Approval for Bengaluru Branch Campus
Liverpool University Approved for Bengaluru Campus

The Ministry of Education has formally handed over the final Letter of Approval (LoA) to the University of Liverpool, granting the UK-based institution permission to establish its branch campus in Bengaluru. This approval is in line with the University Grants Commission's (UGC) 2023 regulations for foreign higher education institutions and aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020's objective to internationalise higher education in India.

Courses Offered at the Bengaluru Campus

The Bengaluru campus will commence operations with a diverse range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Undergraduate students can choose from Business Management, Accounting and Finance, Computer Science, Computer Science with Software Development, Biomedical Sciences, and Game Design. Most undergraduate programmes are structured for a duration of three years. For postgraduate students, the university has introduced master's programmes in Computer Science and Accounting and Finance, each lasting one year. Notably, Game Design is being promoted as a first-of-its-kind programme among UK university campuses operating in India.

Admissions Process and Requirements

The University of Liverpool has already begun accepting applications for its inaugural 2026 intake, with the first batch of students expected to commence classes in 2026. Applicants are required to demonstrate English proficiency through recognised qualifications, such as achieving at least 70% in Class 12 English from CBSE, CISCE, or State Boards, obtaining specified scores in the International Baccalaureate (IB) English programme, or attaining required grades in Cambridge IGCSE English examinations.

Prospective students can apply directly through the university's admissions process. The institution has indicated that scholarships and financial support options will be available for eligible students. Final admission decisions will be based on a combination of factors, including academic performance, statement of purpose (SOP) or personal statement, performance in a virtual interview, and any extraordinary achievements.

Degree Recognition and Value

One of the key concerns for applicants is whether the qualification from the Bengaluru campus will hold the same value as a degree earned in the UK. The University of Liverpool has assured that students at the Bengaluru campus will study under UK-accredited programmes and adhere to the same academic standards as the main campus. The institution also highlighted opportunities for international exposure and collaboration through its global academic network.

Fee Structure and Financial Considerations

The university has not yet published a comprehensive fee structure for all programmes following the final approval announcement. However, the Bengaluru campus is positioned as a cost-effective alternative for students seeking a UK-accredited degree without the significantly higher living and study expenses associated with studying abroad. Prospective students are encouraged to check the official portal for detailed fee information and scholarship opportunities.
