Pune GST Commissioner Advocates for Wise Use of AI Among Students
In a keynote address at the eighth Foundation Day celebration of D Y Patil International University (DYPIU) in Akurdi, Pune, Dinesh Bhoyar, Commissioner of GST & Customs, emphasized the importance of students learning to harness technology wisely rather than fearing artificial intelligence (AI). The event, held on Saturday, brought together academic leaders and students to discuss the evolving role of technology in education and society.
Embracing the AI Era with Caution and Adaptability
Bhoyar highlighted that society is currently immersed in the age of AI, where technology has become an indispensable part of daily life. He noted that AI offers numerous domain-specific applications and can provide rapid answers to complex questions. However, he issued a cautionary note, stating that AI is not infallible and may occasionally generate inaccurate information. "Every generation fears new technology. Similar concerns arose with the introduction of railways, television, and other communication technologies," Bhoyar remarked, urging students to adapt to technological advancements instead of resisting them.
Navigating the Challenges of the Digital Age
Addressing the challenges posed by the digital era, Bhoyar pointed out that the vast volume of data available today necessitates careful segregation and analysis before accepting information as correct. He stressed the need for critical thinking and discernment in an age where misinformation can spread quickly through digital platforms.
University Announces Expansion and Innovations
During the same event, Manish Bhalla, Vice-Chancellor of DYPIU, unveiled ambitious plans for the university's growth. He announced the establishment of a new Department of Law, Governance and Public Policy, along with the introduction of additional schools, including the School of Legal Studies and various Centres of Excellence, set to launch in the next academic year. Bhalla also shared that the university has applied for the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranking and recently inaugurated a semiconductor lab and a Centre of Excellence in electric vehicles, underscoring its commitment to cutting-edge research and development.
Furthermore, Bhalla highlighted the university's strong placement record, demonstrating its success in preparing students for professional careers. These initiatives aim to enhance the institution's academic offerings and foster innovation in key technological and legal fields.
