The Sardar Beant Singh State University in Gurdaspur is set to introduce five new industry-aligned, skill-intensive courses starting from the academic session 2026-27. This initiative aims to revamp technical and professional education in Punjab, as announced by Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains on Saturday.
New Courses Offered
The new courses include a BTech in artificial intelligence and machine learning, a BTech in robotics and AI, a BPharmacy program, a BSc in agriculture, and five-year integrated programs in MCA, MBA, and MSc. These programs are designed to equip students with practical skills and real-world problem-solving abilities.
Government's Vision for Higher Education
Highlighting the government's vision, Bains stated, "The old model of theoretical, exam-centric learning is outdated. We are replacing it with hands-on training, lab immersion, and real-world problem-solving. Sardar Beant Singh University will now become a launchpad for innovators, not just degree-holders." He emphasized that every student will undergo mandatory semester-long internships and live projects to ensure they are industry-ready upon graduation.
Addressing Brain Drain
Bains further noted that this initiative is designed to reverse the state's brain drain. "Parents in Punjab should no longer feel forced to send their children outside for quality tech or pharma education. The Bhagwant Singh Mann government is building future-ready universities right here," he added. The curriculum overhaul is seen as a revolution in how Punjab learns, earns, and grows.
