Massive Turnout Expected for UP Board Exams in Kanpur
Kanpur is gearing up for a significant academic event as 92,444 examinees are set to participate in the Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Board (UP Board) examinations. The exams are scheduled to run from February 18 to March 21, according to official announcements.
Detailed Breakdown of Student Participation
The district inspector of schools provided a comprehensive split of the candidates. 46,430 students will appear for the high school examination, while 46,014 will take the intermediate exams. These tests will be conducted across 124 examination centres throughout the district.
The centres include a diverse mix of institutions: seven government intermediate schools, 73 non-government aided secondary schools, and 44 unaided recognised secondary schools. This wide distribution aims to accommodate the large number of students efficiently.
Robust Administrative Framework Deployed
To ensure the smooth and orderly conduct of the exams, District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh has appointed an extensive team of officials. This includes nine zonal magistrates, 16 sector magistrates, 124 static magistrates, 124 centre administrators, and 124 external centre administrators.
In a review meeting held on Wednesday at the HBTU auditorium, the DM emphasized that all necessary arrangements must be finalized before the exams begin. He directed that every examination centre must have strong arrangements for safe storage of question papers, continuous CCTV monitoring, adequate lighting, drinking water, toilets, and proper seating.
Emphasis on Transparency and Security
"It should be ensured that the exams are conducted in a completely transparent, clean and cheating-free manner," stated the DM, adding that negligence at any level would not be tolerated. This strict stance underscores the administration's commitment to maintaining the integrity of the examination process.
Security measures have been significantly bolstered. Assistant Commissioner of Police (Law & Order) Ranjit Kumar confirmed that armed police forces will be deployed to safeguard examination centres, ensure secure transportation and protection of question papers, and support mobile squads. "Immediate action should be ensured on any unwanted activity," he asserted.
Coordinated Efforts and Past Lessons
Additional District Magistrate (Finance & Revenue) Vivek Chaturvedi instructed all involved officials—centre administrators, external centre administrators, and static magistrates—to work as a coordinated team. He reviewed difficulties encountered in previous years and stressed the importance of resolving them effectively.
The ADM also mandated continuous monitoring of the examinations, with both online and offline control rooms remaining fully active throughout the period. This proactive approach aims to address any issues promptly and maintain a seamless exam environment.
Government Standards and Provisions
District Inspector of Schools Santosh Kumar Rai briefed the officers, principals, and teachers present at the meeting on the standards and provisions set by the government. The gathering included all zonal, sector, and static magistrates, centre administrators, external centre administrators, online and offline control room in-charges, and mobile squad in-charges, ensuring a unified understanding of protocols.
