Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation Launches Major Student Welfare Initiative
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has taken a significant step to support students in municipal schools by approving a comprehensive distribution of boots and socks. This initiative, sanctioned during the AMC standing committee meeting held on Wednesday, aims to benefit approximately 1.72 lakh students enrolled in schools managed by the Ahmedabad Municipal School Board.
Substantial Financial Commitment for Student Comfort
Standing Committee chairman Devang Dani announced that the civic body has allocated a substantial budget of Rs 5 crore specifically for this welfare measure. The distribution drive commenced on Thursday and is being systematically implemented across various wards throughout the city. Dani emphasized that boots and socks will be provided to every student under the school board's jurisdiction, ensuring comprehensive coverage.
Expanding Educational Infrastructure and Management
Dr. Sujay Mehta, Chairman of the Ahmedabad Municipal School Board, provided important context about the board's operations. The school board currently oversees 453 schools within Ahmedabad city, demonstrating its extensive educational network. In a notable development, Mehta revealed that the state government has decided to transfer management responsibilities for nine additional schools located in Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad districts to the school board. This expansion will bring these institutions under the board's operational supervision.
New Administrative Headquarters Nearing Inauguration
In related infrastructure news, Dr. Mehta confirmed that construction of a new school board building in Navrangpura has been successfully completed. The facility is now ready for formal inauguration, which is expected to occur in the near future. This modern administrative center will enhance the board's capacity to manage educational programs and student welfare initiatives more effectively.
The combined efforts of distributing essential footwear and expanding both administrative infrastructure and school management responsibilities reflect the AMC's commitment to improving educational conditions for students across Ahmedabad.
