Bihar Guest Teachers Demand Age Relaxation for BPSC TRE-4 Recruitment
Bihar Guest Teachers Seek Age Relaxation for BPSC Exam

Bihar Guest Teachers Rally for Age Relaxation in Upcoming BPSC Recruitment Exam

In Buxar, a significant group of guest teachers, who were disengaged from plus-two schools last year, has launched a formal demand for age relaxation equivalent to their years of service. This concession is crucial for their eligibility in the upcoming TRE-4 examination, which will be conducted by the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC). The teachers argue that the absence of such relief previously barred many experienced educators from participating in TRE-3, severely impacting their career prospects.

Association Meeting Highlights Grievances

Brajesh Pandey, the president of the Buxar School Guest Teacher Association, disclosed that a pivotal meeting on this issue was convened on Sunday. "Guest teachers were disengaged with effect from March 31, 2024, without any prior notice," Pandey stated. "Due to the lack of age-relaxation provisions, numerous qualified individuals were unable to appear in the third phase of TRE-3, depriving the system of their expertise."

Personal Accounts of Career Hurdles

Manju Kumari, a former English guest teacher from Buxar, shared her distressing experience. Despite six years of continuous and dedicated service, she found herself over-age for recruitment examinations. "Although service weightage was provided, the absence of age relaxation effectively blocked experienced teachers like me from the selection process," she explained, highlighting a systemic flaw that disadvantages seasoned educators.

Legal Battles and Government Response

The Patna High Court, in civil writ case no. 1003 of 2025, set aside the termination of these guest teachers, deeming it unjustified. However, the teachers report that the state government has challenged this order in appeal, prolonging their uncertainty. This legal tussle underscores the ongoing struggle for job security and fair treatment in Bihar's education sector.

Vacancies and Academic Concerns

Members of the association pointed out that several critical subject vacancies—including physics, chemistry, mathematics, and English—remain unfilled even after the declaration of TRE-3 results. They urge the government to:

  • Grant age relaxation equal to their length of service.
  • Allow their participation in TRE-4 on humanitarian and academic grounds.

This move, they assert, would not only address teacher shortages but also honor the contributions of experienced educators, ensuring a more robust academic environment in Bihar's schools.
