Coimbatore Corporation to Inaugurate Two New Public Learning and Coworking Hubs
The Coimbatore Corporation is set to inaugurate two Mudhalvar Padaippagam facilities in the city by next week, marking a significant step in enhancing public access to coworking and learning resources. Construction on these projects, which began in July 2025, has now been fully completed, with each facility built at a cost of Rs 3.36 crore.
Facility Locations and Capacities
One centre is situated at Gandhi Maa Nagar in the North zone, while the other is located at Jeeva Nagar in Kavundamapalayam within the West zone. Each facility is designed to accommodate up to 500 people simultaneously, providing ample space for community engagement and educational activities.
Detailed Features and Amenities
The ground floor of each centre spans 5,000 square feet and functions as a dedicated reading space. It houses an extensive collection of over 48,000 books, primarily aimed at individuals preparing for various competitive examinations. This resource-rich environment is intended to support aspirants in their academic and professional pursuits.
On the first floor, covering 3,000 square feet, a modern coworking space is equipped with free Wi-Fi, offering a conducive environment for remote work, freelancing, and collaborative projects. Additionally, each centre includes computers for public use and a seminar hall capable of seating 50 to 100 people, ideal for hosting special sessions, training programmes, and community events.
Official Statements and Future Plans
Corporation commissioner M Sivaguru Prabakaran emphasized the timely completion of these projects, stating, "Only two centres were sanctioned for the city by the state government, and we have successfully completed work on them. We aim to make them available for public use before the announcement of the upcoming election to avoid any further delays. If the state government plans to sanction more centres in the future, we are fully prepared to execute additional projects in Coimbatore."
In a related development, the corporation is also constructing a library in ward 86 using its general fund, which is expected to be completed next month. These initiatives collectively aim to improve accessibility to learning materials and foster a culture of education and innovation among all residents of Coimbatore.
