Gumla students top JAC Class XII exams with record performance

Gumla: Students from Gumla have secured the first position in arts, second in science, and third in commerce in the Class XII examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC), making the district the best-performing in the state. This marks a significant leap from 2024, when Gumla ranked fourth in arts, sixth in science, and 14th in commerce.

Pass percentages and student numbers

Students from Gumla recorded a pass percentage of 99.52 in arts, 91.06 in science, and 98.43 in commerce. A total of 6,560 students appeared in the arts stream, 974 in science, and 510 in commerce. Of these, 5,317 students secured first division in arts, 809 in science, and 400 in commerce. The district also topped the recently declared JAC Class X examinations with a pass percentage of 99.32.

Key factors behind the success

Dr. Krishna Kumar, principal of PM Shri +2 School, Raidih, which achieved a 100% pass percentage in all three streams of Class XII with most students obtaining first division, attributed the success to three factors: preparation of probable question sets, the efforts put in by students, and remedial classes for weaker students before the final examinations. The turnaround is being credited to the 'Board Exam Vijay Abhiyan', launched in 2024 under then Deputy Commissioner (DC) Prerna Dixit, who focused on improving exam results.

The campaign emphasized timely completion of courses, regular monitoring of assigned work by officers, block resource and cluster resource persons, direct interaction with students, motivation of parents, regular mock tests, model question preparation by a core committee of teachers, and remedial classes for weak students. Dixit supervised the process closely through video interactions and a dedicated WhatsApp group.

Although the foundation had been laid by former DC Karn Satyarthi through the 'Gift of Education' programme in 2023, the initiative gained momentum during Dixit's tenure. Officials said the success reflected coordinated efforts by the administration, teachers, and students. Current DC Dileshwar Mahto stated that Gumla's performance across all intermediate streams was the result of teamwork, continuous monitoring, and sustained dedication.
