HSC Biology Exam in Beed District Marred by Widespread Malpractice, Videos Surface
In a shocking incident that has cast a shadow over the integrity of board examinations, blatant malpractices were observed at an examination centre in Shirur, located within the Beed district of Maharashtra, during the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) Biology paper examination on Wednesday. Disturbing videos that have since gone viral on various social media platforms depict a brazen disregard for examination protocols, with some individuals openly offering chits to candidates using bamboo sticks, while others were seen climbing on window lintels to provide unauthorized study material directly to students inside the hall.
Vigilance Failures and Official Response
This egregious breach of examination conduct has raised serious and urgent questions about the quality and effectiveness of vigilance measures at the exam centre. When contacted for comments, Beed education officer Priyarani Patil confirmed that a detailed report has been formally requested from the local authorities in Shirur to investigate the matter thoroughly. She stated, "All exam centres had been explicitly instructed to enhance and strengthen surveillance during the ongoing board examinations, with different squads actively deployed across both urban and rural areas. Despite these precautionary measures, malpractice cases have unfortunately been reported in Shirur. We assure that stern and decisive action will be taken once an official report from the block education officers is received and reviewed."
Efforts to obtain a statement from Beed district collector Vivek Johnson were unsuccessful, as he did not respond to repeated phone calls and text messages seeking his comments on the escalating situation.
Alarming Statistics and Historical Context
According to the latest official data released by the education board, the Beed district has already reported a concerning total of 10 specific cases of malpractice during the Biology paper alone. However, this figure notably does not include the alleged and widely publicized malpractice incident at the Shirur centre, suggesting the actual number might be significantly higher. Overall, Beed district has reported a staggering total of 39 malpractice cases during the current HSC examination cycle so far, which represents the highest number in the entire Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar division, highlighting a persistent and systemic issue.
This is not an isolated incident in the region. Earlier, at the very outset of the HSC examinations, a major examination malpractice scandal was uncovered at an exam centre in Chousala, also within Beed district. In that case, authorities had to register a formal offence against seven employees, underscoring a troubling pattern of misconduct that threatens the credibility of the educational assessment process.
