In a heartbreaking incident that has sent shockwaves through the coaching hub of Kota, an 18-year-old JEE aspirant from Haryana died by suicide on Sunday by jumping before a moving train on the Delhi-Mumbai railway line. The tragic event occurred under the limits of the Udhyog Nagar police station, marking the first such suicide by a coaching student in Kota this year.
Victim Identified as Satkar Singh from Sirsa, Haryana
The deceased has been identified as Satkar Singh, a resident of Sirsa district in Haryana. He had been studying in Class 12 and preparing for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) at a coaching institute in Kota for the past two years. During his stay, he lived in a hostel room in the city's Rajiv Gandhi Nagar area, immersing himself in the rigorous preparation that defines Kota's coaching culture.
Police Investigation and Case Registration
Police officials stated that no suicide note was recovered from the scene. Based on the statement of the loco-pilot, who witnessed the incident and informed authorities, the police have termed the death as suicide. The loco-pilot reported that the teen intentionally jumped before the moving train with the clear intent to end his life.
Following a report by family members, the Udhyog Nagar police registered a case under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for abetment of suicide. This legal step was taken to thoroughly investigate and ascertain the actual reasons behind Satkar's tragic decision. Circle Inspector Jitendra Singh of Udhyog Nagar police station confirmed that the body was recovered from the railway line and handed over to the family after a post-mortem on Monday.
Family's Arrival and Last Conversations
Satkar's family reached Kota on Monday after being informed of the incident. Police have declined to specify the nature of the alleged abetment at this early stage of the investigation, emphasizing the need for a detailed probe. In a poignant detail, it was revealed that in his last mobile conversation with his father, Satkar mentioned that his train was running three hours late, although this was not true, and that he had stopped at the railway station.
Background and Scheduled Return Home
Satkar had reportedly completed his JEE preparation course at the coaching institute in Kota and was scheduled to return home by train on January 25. This adds a layer of tragedy to the incident, as he was on the verge of concluding his intensive study period in the city. The case highlights the immense pressure faced by students in coaching hubs like Kota, where academic expectations can sometimes lead to severe mental health challenges.
Authorities are continuing their investigation under BNS Section 108 to uncover any contributing factors or circumstances that may have led to this devastating loss of a young life.
