Madurai Corporation Inaugurates Modern Science Centre with CSR Funding
In a significant boost to educational infrastructure, the Madurai Corporation has officially launched a cutting-edge science centre at Karimedu. This ambitious project, established with a substantial investment of Rs 2.5 crore, has been fully funded by the Ankuran Foundation of Pinnacle Infotech under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative. The inauguration ceremony was graced by Chief Minister M K Stalin, who formally opened the centre on Saturday, marking a new chapter in hands-on learning for local students.
Strategic Location and Target Audience
The new science centre is strategically situated in the old fish market area, a location chosen to maximize accessibility. It is primarily designed to serve students from Class VI to Class XII who are enrolled in corporation schools across Madurai. According to Prashant Kumar, head of Ankuran Science Centres, the facility aims to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. "This centre will provide students with a unique opportunity to visualize and better understand the scientific concepts they learn in their classrooms," Kumar explained, emphasizing the centre's role in enhancing educational outcomes.
State-of-the-Art Facilities and Operational Plans
Equipped with modern amenities, the centre features dedicated laboratories for physics, computer science, biology, and chemistry, all outfitted with advanced tools to facilitate interactive learning. Access to the centre will be completely free for corporation school students, with plans underway to organize routine visits in collaboration with the Madurai Corporation. Beyond regular school hours, the centre will also welcome students from private schools, albeit for a nominal fee, thereby extending its benefits to a broader audience.
Staffing and Phased Implementation
To ensure effective operation, the Ankuran Foundation is actively recruiting tutors from Madurai and will provide them with two weeks of specialized training. Kumar detailed the phased rollout: "The centre will become fully operational within 15 to 20 days. Initially, for the first six months, we will concentrate on demonstrations and sessions for corporation schools. Once we establish a solid foundation and complete the hiring process, we will expand access to include private school students as well."
Sustainable Maintenance and Future Prospects
In a commitment to long-term sustainability, the Ankuran Foundation has pledged Rs 5 lakh annually towards the maintenance of the centre. Meanwhile, the Madurai Corporation will handle essential utilities such as water and electricity, ensuring the facility remains functional and accessible. This partnership underscores a collaborative effort to foster scientific curiosity and academic excellence among Madurai's youth, setting a precedent for future educational initiatives in the region.
