In a significant move to bolster the quality of school education, the Centre for Continuing Education at the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Surathkal, successfully concluded a five-day residential training workshop. The program was conducted in partnership with the Navodaya Leadership Institute (NLI) from Goa.
Empowering Educators from Southern Regions
The intensive workshop, which ran until Friday, was specifically designed for teachers from the Prime Minister's Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) scheme. It saw active participation from 46 educators representing Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas across various southern states and the Union Territory of Puducherry.
Officially titled ‘Enrichment, Creative Pedagogy, and Capacity Building for TGTs/PGTs,’ the event was formally inaugurated by B Ravi, the director of NITK Surathkal. In his inaugural address, Director Ravi highlighted the pivotal role teachers hold in shaping the nation's future. He pointed out the evolving challenges in the education sector and emphasized the urgent need for educators to embrace innovative and dynamic teaching methodologies.
Focus on Modern Pedagogy and NEP-2020
The core curriculum of the workshop was meticulously crafted to move beyond traditional teaching. Sessions were centered on promoting student-centric learning and seamlessly integrating modern technology into the classroom. A strong emphasis was placed on practice-based and experiential learning approaches.
Participants were guided on how to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application, making lessons more relatable and impactful for students. An important dimension of the training involved incorporating elements of the Indian knowledge system into daily teaching practice. Furthermore, the guiding principles of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 served as a foundational framework throughout the workshop, aligning its goals with the national educational vision.
A Blend of Academic and Industry Expertise
The primary objective of this initiative was to arm teachers with practical tools to foster critical thinking, ignite curiosity, and facilitate deeper, more meaningful learning outcomes among their students. To provide a well-rounded perspective, the workshop featured a diverse panel of resource persons.
This included esteemed faculty members from NITK, alongside industry experts, consultants, and startup mentors. This blend ensured that the participating educators received insights that combined robust academic theory with contemporary practical applications from the professional world.
By focusing on creative pedagogy and capacity building, this collaborative effort between NITK Surathkal and NLI Goa marks a concrete step towards enhancing the instructional quality in PM SHRI schools, ultimately aiming to enrich the learning experience for students nationwide.
