The Bihar primary education department has mandated the organisation of Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs) across all 68,000 primary schools in the state on May 9. The initiative, themed ‘Our Child, Our Responsibility’, aims to reinforce the shared duty of schools and families in a child’s learning and holistic development.
Directive Issued by Primary Education Director
Vikram Virkar, Director of Primary Education, issued a directive on Wednesday to all district education officers and district programme officers (SSA). In his communication, he emphasised that the objective is to make parents aware that both schools and families bear equal responsibility in a child’s education and overall growth. Parents will be encouraged to ensure regular school attendance of their children and to create a supportive and conducive learning environment at home.
Key Instructions for District Officials
Virkar instructed district officials to ensure that class-wise PTMs are conducted effectively in all primary schools. He stressed the need to secure maximum participation of parents to strengthen the collaboration between schools and families. The meetings are expected to foster a dialogue on children’s progress, attendance, and home learning conditions.
This large-scale event is part of ongoing efforts to improve primary education outcomes in Bihar by bridging the gap between school and home environments. Officials are expected to report on participation rates and feedback after the meetings.
