School Warden Suspended After Farewell Party with Eunuchs Sparks Outrage
In a controversial incident that has ignited widespread debate, the warden of a tribal ashram school in Kurupam mandal of Parvathipuram Manyam district, Vizianagaram, has been suspended for organizing a farewell party for 10th standard students that featured eunuchs. The event, which took place at the Neelakanthapuram tribal welfare ashram school for boys, has drawn sharp criticism from parents and authorities alike.
Viral Videos Expose Controversial Celebration
The farewell bash occurred on Friday night but only came to public attention on Monday after videos of students dancing with eunuchs went viral across various social media platforms. The footage, which quickly spread online, showed students engaging in dance performances with the eunuchs, leading to allegations of inappropriate behavior.
According to sources familiar with the incident, the school's deputy warden, Pattika Chandra Mohan, actively encouraged students to match steps with the eunuchs, locally referred to as hijras. The dance performance was described by some as vulgar, with the warden allegedly promoting the participation of students in the activity.
Parental Anger and Official Action
Following the viral spread of the videos, parents of several students expressed their anger and frustration by lodging formal complaints with higher officials in the tribal welfare department. The outcry prompted swift action from authorities, who suspended the warden for his conduct and for involving students in the controversial dance.
Chandra Mohan, who serves as a physical director at the school, had taken on the role of deputy warden just last June. He has been associated with the institution for approximately two and a half years. The school itself caters to 272 students from sixth to 10th standard, with 39 of them being in the 10th grade at the time of the incident.
School Administration's Response
Notably, the headmaster and principal of the school was absent during the event, having traveled to Palakonda to attend a meeting. Upon learning of the incident, the principal stated, "I came to know that the students wanted to celebrate their farewell party by dancing. But I don't know how this 'dance' came into the school." He further confirmed that he has submitted a detailed report to higher officials as requested.
An official inquiry has been initiated against the warden to investigate the full circumstances surrounding the party and the involvement of eunuchs. The tribal welfare department is closely monitoring the situation, with further details expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
Broader Implications and Community Reaction
This incident has raised significant questions about the boundaries of school celebrations and the role of educators in guiding student activities. The use of eunuchs in a school setting, particularly in a tribal welfare institution, has sparked discussions on cultural sensitivity and appropriate conduct.
Local communities and educational authorities are now reflecting on the need for stricter guidelines and oversight to prevent similar occurrences in the future. The suspension of the warden serves as a stark reminder of the responsibilities held by school staff in ensuring a safe and respectful environment for all students.
