South Point School Exhibition Showcases Student Creativity and Academic Projects
The biennial exhibition of South Point School and South Point High School was held from January 20 to 22 at the South Point School premises in Kolkata. The event was inaugurated by artist Parag Roy on January 20, marking the start of a vibrant three-day showcase.
Open to visitors from 12 noon to 6 p.m. each day, the exhibition featured a wide range of art and craft exhibits that highlighted the creativity of students from nursery to class XII. The displays included greeting cards, transport models, nameplates, letter boxes, cutlery holders, dolls, paintings, wall hangings, lamps, fans, aprons, and cushion covers.
Senior Student Contributions and Live Demonstrations
Senior students worked on large canvases, wooden panels, and plates, creating intricate items such as fountains, resin clocks, fridge magnets, key rings, candle stands, coasters, handmade bags, tote bags, cushion covers, lamp shades, and lino-print calendars. These projects demonstrated advanced skills and innovative thinking.
Live demonstrations and project work formed a major segment of the South Point High School exhibition. All departments presented themes of local relevance and global importance, engaging visitors with interactive displays and educational insights.
Academic Department Highlights
The Chemistry department showcased "Chemistry in Action – Sustaining the Future", focusing on sustainable practices. Physics highlighted "Living with Physics", exploring everyday applications of scientific principles. Economics delved into the growing gig economy, while Sociology examined "The Myth Behind Beauty".
Political Science presented Environmental Politics, addressing critical global issues. Geography displayed its varied branches, and History took visitors back to Ancient Egypt with detailed exhibits. Language departments also made significant contributions: Bengali highlighted the role of rivers in literature, Hindi paid tribute to Amir Khusru, and English explored seasons in literary works.
Computer Science presented "Securing the Cyber Space", emphasizing digital safety, and Biology offered "A Walk Through the Therapeutic Time Tunnel", showcasing medical and biological advancements. Various stage performances were held throughout the three-day event, adding a cultural dimension to the exhibition.
