Student Assaults Lecturer After Being Caught Cheating During College Exam in Kalaburagi
A routine internal examination at a private homoeopathy college in Kalaburagi escalated into a violent confrontation on Friday, when a student physically attacked a lecturer after being caught red-handed while cheating. The incident has sent shockwaves through the academic community, highlighting severe disciplinary issues.
Exam Supervision Turns Violent
The altercation occurred during the Homeopathic Materia Medica paper, which was being supervised by assistant professor Shivarajkumar. While monitoring the student block, Shivarajkumar noticed Shahbaz, a student, illicitly using his mobile phone during the exam—a clear violation of academic integrity rules.
Shivarajkumar immediately intervened, questioning Shahbaz about the unauthorized device. Following protocol, the lecturer confiscated the student's answer sheet and instructed him to leave the examination hall immediately. This decisive action, however, triggered an explosive reaction from the student.
Physical Assault and Immediate Aftermath
Enraged by being caught and facing disciplinary action, Shahbaz launched a physical assault on Shivarajkumar right inside the classroom. The sudden attack disrupted the examination environment and left staff and students alarmed.
In response to this serious misconduct, the college management took swift administrative measures. They contacted Shahbaz's parents to formally inform them about their son's unacceptable behavior during the exam. Furthermore, the institution decided to impose a strict penalty: Shahbaz will not be permitted to appear for any further examinations as a consequence of his actions.
No Police Complaint Filed Despite Violence
Interestingly, despite the physical nature of the assault, neither the college management nor lecturer Shivarajkumar has filed an official police complaint as of now. A staff member, who requested anonymity, confirmed this detail, stating that the matter has been handled internally through academic disciplinary channels.
