Gujarat Teacher Assaulted by Student, Faces Threats from Family

A shocking incident of student violence against a teacher has come to light in Gujarat's Panchmahal district. A woman schoolteacher was allegedly slapped by an 18-year-old student in front of the entire class after she questioned him about arriving late for an examination.

Incident Details and Police Action

The alleged assault occurred on January 24 in Shehra town, but the teacher gathered the courage to file a formal police complaint only this Tuesday. Following her complaint, police arrested the student on Thursday and conducted a crime scene reconstruction, which brought public attention to the otherwise overlooked case.

The student was scheduled to take his Class 12 pre-board examination, with the woman teacher serving as the classroom supervisor. When he arrived late, she asked for an explanation, prompting the violent response.

Teacher's Account and CCTV Evidence

In her First Information Report (FIR) at Shehra police station, the teacher stated that the youth declared that even at home, no one questions him, before slapping her. He then allegedly pushed her, and she managed to stay upright only by holding onto the smartboard. The entire episode was recorded by the classroom's CCTV camera.

After the incident, the teacher reported it to the in-charge principal, and the student's father was summoned. The father apologized, and it was agreed that further action would be decided on January 27, when the full-time principal returned.

Threats and Intimidation Attempt

On January 27, the student, his father, and approximately 20 others arrived at the school. The teacher alleged that the group threatened her, noting that she lived alone in the town and would face severe consequences if she pursued the matter. Originally from Navsari, the teacher admitted to initial fear but ultimately resolved to file a police complaint.

Police Investigation and Background

Shehra police inspector Ankur Chaudhary confirmed that the youth has no prior offences registered against him. His father works as a state transport bus driver. The case highlights growing concerns about teacher safety and student discipline in educational institutions.

This incident underscores the need for stronger protective measures for educators and stricter enforcement of conduct rules in schools to prevent such occurrences in the future.
