UP Board Rolls Out QR Code Identity Cards for Exam Invigilators to Curb Cheating

The Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Board (UP Board) has taken a significant step towards ensuring the integrity of its examinations by introducing QR code-enabled printed identity cards for all invigilators. This initiative is specifically designed to guarantee a fair and cheating-free environment during the 2026 High School and Intermediate examinations.

Implementation and Standard Operating Procedure

Board Secretary Bhagwati Singh announced that the QR code-based printed identity cards were uploaded to the board's official portal on Tuesday, accompanied by a detailed standard operating procedure (SOP) for their issuance. Singh emphasized that strict instructions have been issued to ensure the exams are conducted in a transparent manner, free from any malpractice. He stated that all district inspectors of schools (DIOS) must adhere to the prescribed procedure without any deviation, highlighting the time-bound and sensitive nature of the matter.

According to the SOP, principals of all secondary schools are required to download the invigilators' ID cards from the board portal and print them in duplicate. The details and photographs of the concerned teachers must be meticulously verified against school records. Both the teacher and the principal must sign the cards to confirm authenticity.

Verification and Distribution Process

The signed ID cards will then be submitted to the DIOS for countersignature and for mentioning the allotted examination centre. One countersigned copy will be returned to the principal, while the second copy will be retained in the DIOS office for official records. In instances where QR code-enabled ID cards are not available on the portal, principals are instructed to download the plain format, fill in the details as per records, and obtain countersignature from the DIOS before issuance.

For teachers deputed from the basic education department, the DIOS will share the necessary documents and centre lists through the basic shiksha adhikari (BSA). This ensures a streamlined process across different educational departments.

QR Code Technology for Enhanced Security

The QR codes embedded on the ID cards can be scanned randomly by administrative or departmental officers using a standard mobile QR scanner to verify their authenticity. This technology allows for quick and efficient checks, reducing the risk of fraudulent activities. The DIOSes have been instructed to ensure that no erroneous or discrepant identity card is issued under any circumstances, maintaining the highest standards of security.

Secretary Bhagwati Singh also directed that all identity cards must be issued by February 13, setting a clear deadline to ensure timely preparation for the upcoming examinations. This proactive measure by the UP Board aims to foster trust and credibility in the examination system, addressing long-standing concerns about malpractice.
