UP Education Dept to Host Book Exhibition for Govt Schools & Libraries in Lucknow
UP to hold book exhibition for govt schools, libraries

In a significant push to enhance educational resources, the Uttar Pradesh secondary education department is organising a major book exhibition in Lucknow. This initiative aims to streamline the selection of informative and contemporary books for government-run schools and libraries across the state.

Centralised Selection for Quality Learning Material

The department is taking a consolidated approach to procure high-quality books. Additional Chief Secretary for Basic and Secondary Education, Partha Sarathi Sen Sharma, has formally communicated with the directors of eight key departments. These include Urban Development, Basic, Secondary and Higher Education, Local Body, Social Welfare, Sanskrit Sansthan, and UP Bhasha Sansthan.

The core objective is to select informative and up-to-date books that will enrich the collections of government libraries and school resources. By inviting sample books from various reputed publishers to a single location, the department aims to ensure a thorough and efficient selection process.

Vast Collection at Lucknow's Book Distribution Centre

The exhibition will be held at the Book Distribution Centre in Lucknow, which already houses an extensive collection of excellent books. The available titles span a wide range of subjects crucial for holistic education and competitive readiness.

The subjects covered include:

  • Literature
  • Science
  • Art
  • Competitive Examinations
  • General Knowledge

This centralised repository allows selectors from various departments to review and choose the best available material from a diverse pool, ensuring quality and relevance.

Building on Earlier Educational Reforms

This book exhibition drive follows closely on the heels of another notable directive from the state education department. The government had recently made newspapers compulsory in state-run schools, aiming to keep students informed about current affairs and improve reading habits.

The current focus on updating library and school book collections is seen as a complementary step to strengthen the overall learning ecosystem. By providing access to modern and authoritative books, the department intends to bridge resource gaps and foster a more engaging academic environment for students in government institutions.

The move is expected to standardise and upgrade the quality of educational content available to lakhs of students, directly supporting the state's broader educational goals.
