The cinematic debut of star kid Agastya Nanda in the theatrical space has turned into a resounding success. Following his digital premiere in Zoya Akhtar's 'The Archies', Agastya's first big-screen outing, Sriram Raghavan's war drama 'Ikkis', has opened to strong numbers and critical acclaim. The film, which hit theatres on January 1, 2026, has reportedly earned over 20 crores in revenue within its first four days of release.
A Personal Connection and a Sister's Support
Since Agastya Nanda maintains a notable absence from all social media platforms, it was his elder sister, Navya Naveli Nanda, who became the conduit for his feelings. Taking to her Instagram, Navya shared a heartfelt message penned by her brother. In the note, Agastya expressed a deep, personal connection to his role, describing it as "the most meaningful role of my life".
He directly addressed the real-life hero he portrayed, writing, "Thank you Arun Khetarpal, with love Agastya." The post was accompanied by a behind-the-scenes photograph featuring the young actor alongside acclaimed director Sriram Raghavan.
Waves of Praise from Industry and Fans
The Instagram update quickly garnered attention and warm reactions from across the industry and the public. Among those showing support were star kids Suhana Khan, who liked the post, and Shanaya Kapoor, who left an affectionate comment. Fans flooded the comments section, praising Agastya's sincere performance.
One fan called the film a perfect start to the new year, while another appreciated the visible effort and dedication in his portrayal. The admiration even sparked a request for Agastya to finally join Instagram. Responding to this, Navya Nanda humorously replied that she would try to convince him, highlighting the light-hearted family dynamic.
The Story Behind 'Ikkis'
'Ikkis' is a cinematic tribute to the valour of Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal, PVC, who was martyred during the Battle of Basantar in the 1971 Indo-Pakistani War. The title of the film, 'Ikkis', meaning twenty-one in Hindi, poignantly refers to the young officer's age at the time of his supreme sacrifice.
Directed by the master of thrillers, Sriram Raghavan, the film features Agastya Nanda in the lead role of Arun Khetarpal, with Simar Bhatia playing Kiran. The cast is bolstered by powerful performances from veterans and established actors. The late and legendary Dharmendra portrays Brigadier M.L. Khetarpal (Retd.), Arun's father. The ensemble also includes the late veteran actor Asrani, along with Jaideep Ahlawat, Shree Bishnoi, Suhasini Mulay, Sikander Kher, Rahul Dev, and Vivaan Shah, among others.
The film's successful opening, combining commercial success with emotional depth, marks a significant and promising step in Agastya Nanda's acting career, moving him beyond his launchpad in 'The Archies' into more serious, content-driven cinema.
