Arsh Aneja's Emotional Lohri: Celebrating Far From Home in Mumbai
Pushpa Impossible actor Arsh Aneja recently shared heartfelt thoughts about spending the festival of Lohri away from his hometown and family. The actor currently lives and works in Mumbai, where he finds the celebrations quieter compared to his childhood memories.
Missing the True Essence of Lohri
"This Lohri, I am in Mumbai — far from my hometown, far from the warmth that truly defines this festival for me," Aneja says with emotion. He explains that back home, Lohri was never just a celebration. It was a feeling that lived in every corner of the house.
The excitement would begin days before the actual night. Winter evenings grew warmer with anticipation. Conversations constantly revolved around how the family would celebrate together.
Nostalgic Memories of Childhood Celebrations
Aneja vividly recalls the crackling bonfire in the courtyard. Familiar faces gathered around it, with laughter mixing with the cold winter air. He misses the simple joys of holding peanuts in his hands and sharing traditional sweets.
"I miss sharing rewri, gachak, popcorn, and til sweets," he shares. "We would eat them slowly as if time itself had paused. Those snacks were never just food. They were part of tradition, part of love, part of childhood."
The Little Things That Matter Most
What Aneja misses most are the small, joyful activities. He remembers flying kites during the day and watching them dance in the winter sky. Competing with friends brought special excitement, especially when shouting as one kite cut another.
"The sky felt bigger back then, and so did our happiness," he reflects. By evening, the air would fill with wonderful smells. The scent of firewood, roasted peanuts, and home-cooked food made everything feel complete.
Celebrating Differently in Mumbai
This year in Mumbai, Lohri feels much quieter for Aneja. He acknowledges being in the city for work, chasing dreams and building a future. However, festivals have a unique way of reminding people where they come from.
"I celebrate in my heart, carrying memories instead of rituals," he explains. "I miss sitting with family, the warmth of togetherness, the comfort of home where celebration came naturally."
Distance Brings New Understanding
Living away from home has taught Aneja the true meaning of Lohri. He realizes that home is not just a physical place but a feeling you carry wherever you go. Even in Mumbai, far from his roots, certain things keep him connected.
"Every peanut, every memory of a kite in the sky, every thought of the bonfire keeps me connected to my roots," he says. "I may be away today, but my heart celebrates Lohri exactly where it belongs — at home."
