The long-awaited sequel to the iconic war drama, 'Border 2,' is officially set to march into theatres on January 23, 2026. This announcement has sent waves of excitement through Bollywood fans, marking the return of Sunny Deol to the franchise after a gap of nearly three decades. The film promises to carry forward the legacy of its predecessor with a fresh narrative and a powerful ensemble cast.
Sonam Bajwa on Diljit Dosanjh's Enduring Humility
One of the most talked-about aspects of 'Border 2' is the fresh Bollywood pairing of Punjabi powerhouses Diljit Dosanjh and Sonam Bajwa. In a recent interaction with News18, Bajwa opened up about her experience working with Dosanjh, whom she has known for over 12 years. She emphasized that despite achieving global stardom, Diljit remains remarkably unchanged and grounded.
"Despite witnessing global stardom he remains the same man. It's really amazing. His journey is so inspiring," Sonam shared. She highlighted his incredible passion for music, stating he "breathes music," and expressed immense pride in his journey. A key trait she admired was his humility: "He has never made any one of us feel that he's a global sensation. He's still so grounded and still very funny."
From Awkward Silence to On-Set Comfort
Bajwa revealed that their comfort level wasn't instantaneous. During their first film together, 'Punjab 1984', they barely interacted due to the serious nature of the project directed by Anurag Singh. The ice broke during the shooting of the romantic comedy 'Super Singh'. "We had a lot of banter in the film. We would improvise a lot on set," she recalled.
This collaboration led to three or four more films and several song shoots, building a solid rapport. She fondly remembered a hilarious moment on the sets of 'Border 2': "There's a scene in Border 2... We didn't interact much before filming it but while shooting for it, we ended up laughing so much." Diljit even joked, "Come on Sonam! Because of you we can't do more takes!"
Director's Vision and Star-Studded Cast
Reflecting on the 'Punjab 1984' days, Sonam credited Diljit for lightening the serious atmosphere on set with his innate humor. The vision for 'Border 2' is helmed by director Anurag Singh. Actor Ahan Shetty, who is also part of the cast, spoke to ANI about the film being a tribute and highlighted Singh's commitment to authenticity.
"Anurag Singh understands that authenticity cannot be manufactured; it has to be earned," Shetty stated. He elaborated on the depth of his preparation, saying, "I had to understand what my character was carrying into every moment, the weight of his training, the responsibility to his team, and the knowledge that every decision has life-or-death consequences."
The film boasts a formidable star cast including Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, Ahan Shetty, and Sonam Bajwa. The project signifies a major cinematic event, bridging a 27-year gap to revive a story that holds a special place in Indian cinema.
