The teaser for Yash's upcoming film Toxic continues to generate controversy. The Central Board of Film Certification has made an important clarification about the promotional material.
CBFC Confirms No Submission Yet
According to recent reports, the CBFC has not received any promotional assets for the film Toxic. This includes trailers, teasers, or any other clips from the movie. The board certifies content for theatrical releases and television broadcasts. However, material streamed exclusively on social media platforms does not require their clearance.
AAP's Formal Complaint
The Aam Aadmi Party's Women's Wing submitted a formal complaint to the Karnataka State Women's Commission. They expressed strong concerns about the teaser's content. AAP state secretary Usha Mohan detailed these objections in a letter.
She described the teaser as containing "obscene and explicit" material. Mohan argued this content could potentially harm the social well-being of women and children. She also noted the teaser appeared on YouTube without appropriate age-related warnings.
The complaint further stated that the content "degrades the dignity of women" and "insults Kannada culture." These allegations have added fuel to the ongoing debate about the film's promotional strategy.
Industry Reactions to the Teaser
Despite the controversy, many film industry figures have praised the Toxic teaser. Sandeep Reddy Vanga, director of Animal and Kabir Singh, shared his enthusiastic response on social media platform X. He wrote that the teaser "just knocked me out" and praised its "style, attitude, and chaos."
Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma also commented on X. He expressed admiration for director Geetu Mohandas, calling her "the ultimate symbol of Women Empowerment." Varma added that no male director compares to her vision based on what he saw in the trailer.
About Toxic and Its Release
Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups marks Yash's first major project since the conclusion of the KGF franchise. The teaser introduced audiences to Yash's character named Raya. It released on the actor's birthday, immediately sparking discussions across social media.
The controversial scene shows Raya engaged in sexual activities with a female character. This particular moment triggered the formal complaints from political organizations.
Box Office Expectations
The film industry watches Toxic with great interest given Yash's previous success. The KGF films achieved remarkable box office numbers. KGF Chapter 2 earned approximately Rs 860 crore in India and Rs 1,215 crore worldwide according to trade tracker Sacnilk. The first KGF film collected around Rs 185 crore in India and Rs 237.75 crore globally.
Toxic faces direct competition upon its release. The film will clash with the sequel to Dhurandhar on March 19. The first Dhurandhar film performed exceptionally well, earning about Rs 808 crore in India and Rs 1,258 crore worldwide as per Sacnilk data.
What Happens Next
The CBFC's clarification means the currently circulating teaser exists in a regulatory gray area. Since it streams on social media rather than traditional platforms, it bypasses normal certification processes. However, the full film will require proper certification before its theatrical release on March 19.
The Karnataka State Women's Commission now holds the AAP's complaint. They must decide whether to take any action regarding the teaser's content. Meanwhile, the film's team continues its promotional activities ahead of the scheduled release date.
This situation highlights evolving challenges in film certification. Digital distribution creates new questions about content regulation. The Toxic controversy may influence how authorities handle similar cases in the future.
