Dhurandhar 2 Faces Copyright Lawsuit Over Unauthorized Song Usage
Even as the blockbuster film Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge continues its remarkable box office performance, it has encountered significant legal challenges. Bollywood production house Trimurti Films has filed a lawsuit against Aditya Dhar's production banner B62 Studios over allegations of unauthorized usage of the iconic song Rang De Lal (Oye Oye).
Dispute Over Classic Song Rights
According to legal reports, the controversy centers on the rights to the popular musical track originally featured in the 1989 film Tridev. The song was collaboratively composed by the legendary duo Kalyanji–Anandji along with composer Viju Shah, featuring lyrics by the renowned Anand Bakshi and vocals by Amit Kumar and Sapna Mukherjee.
Trimurti Films has formally alleged that the production team behind Dhurandhar 2 used either the original song or a substantially similar version without obtaining the necessary licenses and permissions required for such usage.
Claims of Copyright Infringement
The legal complaint asserts that Trimurti Films maintains ownership and control over the rights to both the musical composition and the sound recording of Rang De Lal. The production company has specifically alleged that the unauthorized usage constitutes copyright infringement, including illegal reproduction and public communication of the protected work.
The lawsuit seeks multiple legal remedies:
- An immediate injunction to prevent further use of the song
- Substantial financial damages for the alleged infringement
- Additional relief as determined by the court
Trimurti Films has expressed particular concern about the commercial exploitation of the track across multiple platforms, including:
- Theatrical releases of the film
- Streaming platforms hosting the content
- Various promotional materials and marketing campaigns
