Director Durai Senthilkumar Reflects on Creative Regrets as 'Leader' Hits Theaters

Director R.S. Durai Senthilkumar is currently focused on the worldwide theatrical release of his latest film 'Leader', which premiered on April 3 starring Legend Saravanan in the lead role. The film has already generated significant buzz among audiences following a grand music and action teaser launch event in Chennai attended by numerous film personalities and fans.

Open Admission of Creative Missteps in Earlier Projects

During promotional activities for 'Leader', Durai Senthilkumar spoke candidly about his filmmaking journey and reflected on what he considers creative mistakes in his earlier works. The director specifically addressed his 2015 film 'Kaaki Sattai', revealing that the script was originally written as a serious film intended for actor Dhanush.

"When I wrote the film for Dhanush sir, it was in a serious tone. But after it went to Sivakarthikeyan sir, we added Manobala sir's character. I'm not satisfied with that decision," the director admitted. He explained that following the success of Sivakarthikeyan's previous film 'Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam', many people suggested presenting the actor in a more entertaining style, which ultimately influenced the script changes.

Reflections on 'Kodi', 'Pattaas' and 'Garudan'

Durai Senthilkumar also discussed his 2016 political thriller 'Kodi' starring Dhanush, acknowledging that he could have written the climax better. "I thought I could work on the climax after the initial shoot, but we finished the double-action scenes quickly. Dhanush sir was available and wanted to complete the film," he explained, clarifying that the mistake was not on the actor's side.

The director further reflected on his later films, stating about 'Pattaas': "In 'Pattaas', the commercial route and some script changes were things I feel I could have avoided." Regarding his 2023 film 'Garudan', he mentioned that production constraints required completing the film within 70 days, leaving limited time for corrections, though he expressed satisfaction with the final result.

The film features an ensemble cast including Sham, Andrea, Santhosh Prathap, Payal Rajput, Lal, Prabaharan, Amirtha Aiyer, and VTV Ganesh in key supporting roles.
