Golmaal 5 Kicks Off Pre-Production with Exciting New Plans
The fifth installment of India's biggest comedy franchise, Golmaal 5, is now moving into pre-production. An announcement last week confirmed that shooting will start in late February 2026. This news has sparked fresh buzz about the film's detailed filming schedule and other key aspects.
Mumbai Takes Center Stage for Shooting
Director Rohit Shetty typically prefers filming major portions of his movies in locations like Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad or the scenic beaches of Goa. However, for Golmaal 5, he is making a significant shift. The production will primarily take place in Film City, Mumbai.
Multiple elaborate sets are currently under construction in Mumbai. These include a café, a police station, and a palatial residence. All these sets are expected to be fully ready by the beginning of next month.
This Mumbai-based shoot offers a major convenience for the cast members. Actors can stay at their homes and easily report to the set as needed. This setup reduces travel time and allows for a more flexible shooting schedule.
Star-Studded Cast Returns with Surprises
Golmaal 5 features a powerhouse ensemble of leading actors. Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade, and Kunal Kemmu will reprise their iconic roles. Reports also indicate that Sharman Joshi, who was part of the original 2006 Golmaal film, is set to make a comeback.
Additionally, there is strong buzz suggesting that the villain in this installment will be a female character. This twist could add a fresh dynamic to the beloved comedy series.
Franchise Rights: A Journey Through Ownership
The original Golmaal film in 2006 was backed by Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision. Initially, the rights were owned by Dhilin Raj Mehta, also known as Harshad Mehta. According to industry reports, these rights were later transferred to Tejpal Shah of the T A Shah Group.
Subsequently, Tejpal Shah assigned the rights to Rohit Shetty. Shetty secured these rights for a substantial fee per sequel, allowing him to steer the franchise from its second installment onward.
Box Office Triumphs of the Golmaal Series
The Golmaal franchise, revitalized by Rohit Shetty starting with the second film, comprises four highly successful comedy blockbusters released between 2006 and 2017. Each film has shown remarkable growth at the box office.
- Golmaal: Fun Unlimited (2006) earned approximately ₹29.5 crore net in India.
- Golmaal Returns (2008) doubled the earnings, netting around ₹51 crore domestically.
- Golmaal 3 (2010) saw an explosive jump, collecting about ₹107 crore net in India.
- Golmaal Again (2017) dominated with a massive ₹206 crore net in India.
Collectively, these four films have raked in over ₹550 crore net in India. This impressive track record sets high expectations for Golmaal 5, as fans eagerly await another laughter-filled hit.
