Kunal Ganjawala Unveils Hilarious 20-Minute Recording Session for 'Dil Keh Raha Hai'

Singer Kunal Ganjawala has revealed an exciting and amusing story behind the beloved track "Dil Keh Raha Hai" from the Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor starrer movie 'Kyon Ki'. In an exclusive conversation with IANS, Kunal shared that he and composer Himesh Reshammiya ended up recording the entire iconic song within a remarkably short span of just 20 minutes.

The Funny Backstory of the Hit Song

Kunal Ganjawala told IANS, "The story behind it is very funny. So, when I sang the song, I received the lyrics via SMS. We were in the studio, and I got a call from Himesh Bhai (Reshammiya). His dad was supervising everything at the time, as Himesh himself was busy with another sitting."

He added that Himesh Reshammiya had specifically instructed him over the phone call, "We need the same romantic and youthful vibe as 'Hum Dum Suniyo Re' because this song is for Salman Bhai (Khan)." This directive set the tone for the recording session, aiming to capture a similar energetic and romantic feel for the track.

The Swift 20-Minute Recording Process

After the initial recording was completed, Himesh Reshammiya arrived at the studio and expressed his dissatisfaction to his father, saying, "Dad, this is not what I want. Maybe you misunderstood what I wanted." This moment of confusion led to a quick re-recording, and they ultimately finished the song in just 15 to 20 minutes.

Kunal elaborated, "Himesh had a very clear picture of what he wanted," highlighting the composer's precise vision that drove the efficient recording process. The singer praised Himesh's ability to convey his requirements effectively, which facilitated the rapid completion of the track.

Background on the Film 'Kyon Ki'

Talking about 'Kyon Ki', which was made under the direction of Priyadarshan, the film is a remake of Priyadarshan's own 1986 Malayalam outing 'Thalavattam'. This Malayalam film was inspired by the 1975 movie 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest', which itself is based on Ken Kesey's 1962 novel of the same name.

The project featured Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor in lead roles, with a supporting cast including Jackie Shroff, Suniel Shetty, Rimi Sen, and Om Puri in pivotal roles. 'Kyon Ki' narrates the story of Anand, a patient in a mental hospital, and a female doctor named Tanvi, who becomes emotionally attached to him, exploring themes of love and mental health.

This behind-the-scenes anecdote adds a layer of charm to the popular song, showcasing the spontaneous and collaborative nature of Bollywood music production. Kunal Ganjawala's revelation offers fans a glimpse into the creative process that resulted in one of the memorable tracks from the early 2000s.
