The Malayalam film industry is in mourning following the demise of veteran actor Punnapra Appachan. The 77-year-old film and theatre artist passed away while undergoing treatment for injuries sustained from a fall at his residence.
A Tragic Turn of Events
The incident occurred at his home in Alappuzha. After the fall, he was initially admitted to a private hospital in Ernakulam for treatment. His condition, however, deteriorated due to internal bleeding in the head. In a critical state, he was later transferred to Vandanam Medical College Hospital, where he ultimately passed away.
A Storied Career in Cinema
Punnapra Appachan, who hailed from Punnapra in Alappuzha district, began his cinematic journey in 1965. His film debut was in 'Othenante Makan', a production by Udaya Studio featuring the legendary actor Sathyan. This marked the start of a long and respected career in Malayalam cinema.
While he appeared in numerous films, it was his powerful portrayal of a labour leader in the movie 'Anubhavangal Paalichakal' that brought him significant attention and acclaim from audiences and critics alike.
