Rishab Shetty's Shivaji Maharaj Film To Be Two-Part Epic

The life and legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj have long been a source of inspiration for filmmakers, resulting in numerous films, television serials, and documentaries across various Indian languages. Now, actor Rishab Shetty is gearing up for a busy phase with multiple high-profile projects, including the historical drama 'The Pride of Bharat: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj'. The film, initially announced as a single feature, has undergone a major transformation. The makers have reportedly decided to expand the narrative into a two-part theatrical franchise.

Two-Part Release Strategy Finalised

Directed by Sandeep Singh, the film will explore the life and achievements of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj across two chapters. According to reports from Variety India, the filmmakers felt that a larger canvas was necessary to do justice to the historical figure's journey. The first installment is currently planned for a theatrical release in 2028, with the second chapter expected to follow in 2029, allowing the story to unfold across two films.

Budget Expected to Exceed Rs. 500 Crore

The project is also making headlines due to its reported production cost. Reports suggest that the historical epic is being mounted on a budget exceeding Rs 500 crore, making it one of the most expensive Indian films ever produced.

Major Portions to Be Shot in Maharashtra

A significant portion of the production is expected to take place in Maharashtra, a region of deep historical significance as many important chapters of Shivaji Maharaj's life unfolded there. The filmmakers are reportedly planning to use several locations connected to the ruler's journey to ensure authenticity.

'Jai Hanuman' to Be Completed First

Before stepping onto the sets of this historical epic, Rishab Shetty is expected to complete work on 'Jai Hanuman', directed by Prashanth Varma, where he plays Lord Hanuman. Once his commitments to that project are finished, the actor is expected to begin principal photography for 'The Pride of Bharat: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj'.

Following the Success of 'Kantara'

Rishab Shetty's most recent major release was 'Kantara: A Legend – Chapter 1', a 2025 mythological action-thriller that served as a prequel to the blockbuster 'Kantara'. The actor has also spoken out against piracy, emphasizing the importance of protecting creative work.
