Sunny Deol Reveals Dharmendra's Haqeeqat Inspired Border 2, Opens Up on Grief
Sunny Deol: Haqeeqat Inspired Border, Emotional After Dharmendra's Loss

Bollywood star Sunny Deol recently arrived in Jaisalmer for a special event tied to his upcoming film, Border 2. The occasion marked the launch of the song 'Ghar Kab Aaoge' from the highly anticipated sequel. While celebrating with the cast and crew, Deol took a poignant trip down memory lane, revealing the profound cinematic inspiration behind the original 1997 war epic: his father Dharmendra's classic film, Haqeeqat.

A Father's Legacy: Haqeeqat's Lasting Impact

Addressing the audience in Jaisalmer, Sunny Deol shared a heartfelt connection between the two films. He recounted how watching Haqeeqat, released in 1964, as a young boy left a deep impression on him. The film, which depicted the 1962 Sino-Indian War and featured Dharmendra in a leading role, is considered a landmark in Indian war cinema.

"I have been a part of your family ever since I did Border," Deol told the crowd. "I chose to do Border because when I watched my father's film Haqeeqat, I loved it deeply. I was very small then. When I became an actor, I decided that I wanted to make a film like my father's." This personal resolve led him to collaborate with director JP Dutta. Together, they decided to create a film on a subject that would resonate deeply with the nation's sentiment, ultimately giving birth to the iconic Border.

An Emotional Moment Amid Personal Loss

The event also became a platform where Sunny Deol briefly addressed his current emotional state, which has been deeply affected by personal loss. "I won't be able to say much, I am a little shaken," the actor confessed. This statement is a direct reference to the recent passing of his legendary father, Dharmendra, who died on November 24 at the age of 89. The veteran actor's last big-screen appearance was in the war drama Ikkis, which released on January 1 this year.
