A delegation of the All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA) and the Working Women's Coordination Committee met Haryana State Commission for Women chairperson Usha Priyadarshini on Thursday, seeking swift justice for a minor rape survivor in the Kurukshetra Civil Hospital case and raising a range of women's issues.
Delegation Demands Action
The delegation, comprising AIDWA leaders Jagmati Sangwan, Savita and Usha Saroha, along with Working Women's Coordination Committee convener Rani Devi, called for strict action against those responsible. It urged the authorities to ensure the survivor's safety, provide adequate medical and psychological support, and conduct a fair, time-bound investigation. Voicing concern over rising incidents of crimes against women and girls, the delegation said administrative accountability must be fixed in such cases.
Other Issues Raised
The representatives also raised issues including workplace safety for women, effective redressal of sexual harassment complaints, 33 per cent reservation for women in buses, healthcare gaps related to ultrasound facilities and delivery centres, and problems faced by Anganwadi, ASHA, mid-day meal and other scheme workers.
Commission's Response
Usha Priyadarshini said the commission would seek reports from the concerned authorities and take necessary action. The delegation also sought a stronger mechanism to prevent crimes against women and ensure prompt, sensitive and accountable justice for survivors.
