Kolhapur: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will lay the foundation for a new Pradakshina Marg and conservation work of Parivar Devata Mandir at Kolhapur's Mahalaxmi temple on Saturday morning. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar will also attend the function.
This is Shah's first visit to Maharashtra after the Shiv Sena (UBT) faced another split and following a meeting of the CM and both DCMs with him in Delhi to raise concerns about the sugar cooperative industry.
District Collector Vijay Rathod, while announcing Shah's visit on Thursday, said, "The development projects will be carried out under the Shri Mahalaxmi Temple Development Plan. The new Pradakshina Marg will ensure safety and convenient darshan for devotees. The conservation and beautification work of Parivar Devata Mandir from the temple premises will also be carried out."
District authorities said Shah will arrive in Kolhapur on Friday evening. After Saturday morning's event at Mahalaxmi temple, the Home Minister will address political rallies at the Police Parade Ground in Kolhapur and then at Ichalkaranji. The rallies are organized by the BJP to thank voters who supported the party and its allies in the 2024 assembly elections.
Ahead of Shah's visit, roads have been cleaned and smoothened. Traffic diversions will be in place for the movement of Shah's convoy. Shah will leave for Delhi around 4 pm.
