Pune: Three youths have been arrested and their minor accomplice detained for robbing cash and jewellery collectively worth Rs 7.1 lakh from five houses in Daund taluka on June 10. The Pune Rural police managed to crack 20 cases of burglaries, robberies and dacoities with the arrests, while recovering gold and silver jewellery and a motorcycle together worth Rs 25 lakh from the accused.
The aforementioned crimes took place in Babirnagar, Khorwadi and Alegaon villages in Daund taluka, about 80 km from Pune. The youths were caught and the accomplice detained after raids in Ahilyanagar and Beed districts.
The arrested youths were identified as Ganesh Kale (22) and Kishore Bhosale (19) of Ahilyanagar and Vishal Kale (21) of Beed district. In most instances, the accused and their accomplices had assaulted victims with sharp weapons and thrashed them with sticks before robbing them.
Police Investigation
Pune Rural superintendent of police Sandeep Singh Gill had formed six teams to probe the cases. The teams collected detailed descriptions of the accused, alerted informants and checked CCTV camera footage along a 50 km stretch of the scenes of crime.
“The footage confirmed that the dacoits had entered the district from and returned to Ahilyanagar. The police ascertained the identities of four accused, who were reportedly criminals with cases registered against them,” Gill said.
“Additionally, the youths never returned to their houses after the crimes. They either hid in farms or changed their appearance to work in brick kilns. During sustained questioning, the accused admitted to having committed robberies and burglaries at 12 spots in Pune Rural and eight in Ahilyanagar district. Police are looking for their accomplices,” Gill added.
