A devastating fire erupted at the Chagolia market in Dhubri district late on Friday night, completely destroying six commercial establishments. The estimated damage from the blaze runs into several lakhs of rupees.
Fire Engulfs Shops Rapidly
According to police sources from the Chagolia police outpost, the fire spread swiftly across a row of shops, giving owners no time to salvage their goods. Fire tenders from Golokganj and other locations in Dhubri district were rushed to the scene to bring the blaze under control and prevent it from spreading to adjacent shops.
Investigation Underway
Initial investigations suggest that the fire originated inside one of the shops in the market. The exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Authorities are continuing their probe to ascertain the reason behind the incident.
Eyewitness Account
Nitya Ranjan Das, a resident of the Chagolia area, told TOI that six shops, including a confectionery store, were reduced to ashes. He added that the exact extent of the losses is still being assessed.
The damage caused by the blaze is estimated to be in several lakhs. Further updates are awaited as officials complete their assessment.
