Keerthy Suresh to Play Junior Advocate in Courtroom Thriller Sathyavan Savithiri
Keerthy Suresh Stars in Courtroom Thriller Sathyavan Savithiri

Keerthy Suresh will take on the role of a junior advocate who faces off against her senior, played by acclaimed filmmaker Mysskin, in the upcoming courtroom thriller Sathyavan Savithiri. The film is directed by Praveen S Vijaay, who shared insights into the story and its characters.

Plot Overview: Justice vs. Law

Director Praveen S Vijaay explained the central theme of the film: “There is a difference between justice and law. The film is about a wife, Savithiri, a lawyer who gets involved in her husband’s case. She fights for justice, while, for her senior, the law is more important. And then, circumstances lead her to square up against him.” The husband’s role is played by Charukesh, known for his work in Heart Beat.

Acting Approach: Be Yourself

Praveen revealed that he instructed his actors to simply be themselves on set. “I told Mysskin sir to think of himself as an advocate instead of a director and act how he would in real life. The same goes for Keerthy ma’am. I told her not to set any character in her mind.” This naturalistic approach aims to bring authenticity to the courtroom drama.

Aishwarya Rajesh’s Crucial Role

The director credited actress Aishwarya Rajesh for helping move the project forward. “I narrated the story to her, and mentioned that I wanted to mount it as a big-budget film. She then suggested I pitch it to Keerthy ma’am, to whom I had been trying to narrate this story for nearly six years. It was Aishwarya ma’am who helped streamline the process.”

Courtroom Scenes: Inspired by Real Experience

Praveen’s previous work as a co-director and dialogue writer on the film Gargi proved invaluable for staging the courtroom sequences. “I attended court sessions daily for about 20 days for the film. That experience was really helpful. But this film has a commercial metre and thus won’t depict a raw courtroom.”

Title Change: From Savithiri to Sathyavan Savithiri

The director initially wanted to name the film Savithiri. However, he reconsidered because Keerthy Suresh had previously portrayed the legendary actress Savitri in the biographical film Nadigaiyar Thilagam. “We did not want people to get confused and think of this film as a sequel to that one,” Praveen explained.
