Olympic skiing legend Lindsey Vonn received a special honor from the Los Angeles Lakers while still recovering from the serious injuries she suffered earlier this year. The 41-year-old appeared at the Lakers’ playoff game against the Oklahoma City Thunder on crutches after being named the game’s honorary captain. Even though she is going through a painful recovery, Lindsey Vonn still smiled for fans and shared her excitement online after the emotional night in Los Angeles.
The former Olympic champion suffered a frightening crash during the Winter Olympics in Milan Cortina after coming out of retirement to compete again. The accident left her with a complex tibia fracture and a separate ACL injury. She later needed multiple surgeries and a long recovery process after being airlifted to a hospital. Still, Lindsey Vonn has shown no sign of stepping away from the sport that made her one of the biggest names in skiing history.

The win completed a 4-0 sweep for Oklahoma City, with Shai Gilgeous Alexander leading the way with 35 points. Ajay Mitchell also played a big role after scoring 28 points for the visitors. The Thunder now move on to the Western Conference Finals, where they will face either the Minnesota Timberwolves or the San Antonio Spurs.
Lindsey Vonn has a personal connection with Minnesota because she was born there, but she admitted she was disappointed to see the Lakers’ season come to an end. On Instagram, she shared pictures from the game while holding a Lakers jersey and thanked the team for the honor.
She wrote, “Playoff basketball!! Was my first time as honorary captain. Thank you Lakers. Sad that the season is over but that’s sports. There’s always next year.”
Fans quickly filled the comments section with support for the skiing legend. One fan called her the “Queen of the court,” while another wrote, “She knows ball!” A third fan simply commented, “Looking good.”
Even while dealing with painful injuries and months of recovery, Lindsey Vonn continues to stay positive in public. Her appearance at the Lakers game showed that she is still fighting through one of the hardest moments of her career while keeping her connection with sports alive.
