The Malayalam romantic entertainer 'Premalu', directed by Girish AD, emerged as one of the biggest success stories in recent times, receiving an overwhelming response upon its theatrical release. The film, starring Naslen and Mamitha Baiju in lead roles, was set against the vibrant backdrop of Hyderabad and followed a youthful narrative that deeply resonated with audiences. Crossing the Rs 100 crore mark, the movie garnered widespread appreciation for its stellar performances and engaging storytelling. The cast also included Shyam Mohan, Akhila Bhargavan, Sangeeth Prathap, Altaf Salim, and Meenakshi Raveendran.
Sequel Announcement and Delays
Following its impressive theatrical run, the makers of 'Premalu' announced plans for a sequel. However, updates regarding 'Premalu 2' remained scarce, and reports of delays began to surface over time. Producer Dileesh Pothan had previously spoken about the project's status, suggesting that the sequel had almost been dropped. Now, lead actor Naslen has addressed the matter, shedding light on the reasons behind the film's cancellation.
Naslen Reveals Why the Film Was Stopped
Speaking during an interview with Club FM, Naslen explained the decision to halt the sequel. 'Premalu 2 has officially been cancelled. Dileesh ettan has already spoken about it. Due to certain technical reasons, the project did not reach a perfect landing. Maybe it could happen in the future. But as of now, it has been cancelled. The project was stopped because the script did not achieve the required perfection,' Naslen stated. He emphasized that the team could not move ahead because the script did not fully satisfy them, leaving room for a potential revival in the future.
Possibility of Future Return
Even though the sequel has currently been called off, Naslen's statement has left the door open for future possibilities. Meanwhile, the actor has a number of upcoming projects currently under development. His future lineup reportedly includes 'Suriya 47' with director Jithu Madhavan and actor Suriya. He is also attached to Amal Neerad's 'Bachelor Party 2' and 'Mattancherry Mafia', directed by Khalid Rahman, featuring Mammootty in the lead role.
