A pet German Shepherd that had killed a 90-year-old woman in Vikas Nagar on March 19, 2025, attacked her elderly daughter-in-law again on Saturday night, seriously injuring both her hands. The municipal corporation stated that the dog would be captured on Tuesday and sent to a shelter home.
The woman, Kiran Trivedi, was admitted to a private hospital in Sarvodaya Nagar, where her condition is said to be out of danger. Neighbors revealed that the dog belonged to the family in the Rawatpur police station area of Vikas Nagar. After the fatal incident last year, the deceased's grandson brought the dog back by submitting an affidavit to the municipal corporation.
The earlier attack occurred on March 19, 2025, when the dog killed 90-year-old Mohini Trivedi, sister of Tribhuvan Prasad Tiwari, former Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry. Mohini had tried to scare the dog named Robert with a stick, after which the dog turned aggressive and attacked her. The municipal corporation team initially took the dog into custody, but after the family registered the dog, the deceased's grandson secured its release by submitting an affidavit and kept it elsewhere. Neighbors said Prashant brought the dog home on May 1.
On Saturday night around 10:30 PM, in Prashant's absence, the dog attacked his mother Kiran Trivedi, injuring both her hands. Prashant initially claimed it was a stray dog attack and admitted her to a private hospital. Chief veterinary officer Dr. R. K. Niranjan said that although the dog is registered, given its recent attack, a team would be sent again on Tuesday to capture the dog and confine it to a shelter home.
This incident has raised concerns about the safety of keeping aggressive pets in residential areas. The municipal corporation has assured that necessary action will be taken to prevent further attacks.
