Prince Harry is reportedly preparing to return to the United Kingdom for the one-year countdown celebration of the Invictus Games, but his trip comes with a set of conditions. According to sources, the Duke of Sussex has drawn up a list of demands regarding how his wife, Meghan Markle, should be treated by the royal family if she were to accompany him.
Demands for Fair Treatment
After the couple's high-profile exit from royal duties, Prince Harry is determined that Meghan Markle should not be portrayed as the villain. The 41-year-old royal is reportedly insisting that his family gives the former 'Suits' actress a fair chance. An insider told Radar Online, 'Harry is coming in with all these demands on behalf of Meghan, and it's rubbing a lot of people up the wrong way.' The source added that the prince feels he has no other choice given past experiences.
Previous Visits and Tensions
Meghan Markle last joined the royal family in June 2022 for the National Service of Thanksgiving at St. Paul's Cathedral during Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee, and again in September for the Queen's funeral. However, reports suggest the couple was booed by the crowd and seated far from senior working royals. Meghan was also reportedly avoided by family members. The insider explained, 'The last thing he wants is Meghan walking into a situation where she feels judged, and he says all he's asking is that she's treated with basic respect and not cast as the bad guy before anything's even happened.'
Outrage from Senior Royals
The demands have allegedly caused outrage among senior royals, who are taken aback by what they perceive as audacity. A source noted, 'The fact that, once again, it all centres around Meghan – and presumably ensuring she's treated with kid gloves.' The demands are seen as a form of reassurance for the Duchess, but they have strained relations further.
Meghan Markle's Own Demands
Earlier, royal insider Rob Shuter reported that Meghan Markle has her own set of demands if she were to attend the Los Angeles 2027 Summer Games. These include extra security, a request that staff avoid looking at her, and the closure of four floors of the Birmingham Hyatt Hotel for her stay.
The ongoing saga continues to highlight the deep rift between the Sussexes and the rest of the royal family, with both sides seemingly entrenched in their positions.
