Priyanka Chopra's Parenting Lessons from Her Father: From Making Eye Contact to Being Courageous
Global icon Priyanka Chopra has always been vocal about her journey into motherhood and the values she wishes to instil in her daughter. However, most of these lessons come directly from the influence of her father, the late Dr Ashok Chopra. From making eye contact to ensuring that you always smell amazing, here are some things that the 'Citadel' star learned from her father.
Conversational Skill: Maintain Eye Contact
While talking about some of the lessons that she learned from her parents on the 'Mythical Kitchen' podcast, Priyanka Chopra shared that one of the main lessons was to always keep eye contact with the person you are talking to. "Making eye contact. And looking at someone when you are talking to them, and not looking around the room or thinking about your next step," she added.
Priyanka Chopra Says Her Father Told Her to Be Like Water
In her memoir, the actress mentioned the advice her father gave her: "Be like water." In an old interview, the star further elaborated on the thought and shared that "It's such a beautiful thought, right?" She added, "My dad told me something, which had such a sense of power. He said, 'In the new place that you go to, you'll have no baggage of what you have right now, that this teacher doesn't like me or this friend is not my friend or whatever. When you go to a new place, you have a clean slate, so you can be whoever you want.'" She continued, "And then he said, 'You should be like water,' and I said, 'What does that mean?' He said, 'Water can be as powerful as a waterfall. It can cascade down onto stones and make holes in them. That's how strong water can be. But at the same time, it can be as still as a teacup. It can be anything and everything it wants to be within any vessel that it's put into.'"
Always Smell Amazing No Matter What
Another tip that her father left her with was that it is important that you always smell amazing, no matter what. While talking about the same, she shared that it is one of the things she always remembers because her father taught her that it is important to always smell good. On the 'Mythical Kitchen' podcast, where she starred as a guest a few years back, the famed actress added that, "My mom smelled of Dior's Poison, and my dad of Old Spice. That's also part of it…just the allure around them."
He Taught Priyanka Chopra to Find Courage Within
While talking about her father in an interview with Ranveer Allahbadia for 'Beer Biceps', the actress revealed that her father has always inspired her to take courage and to take action. Bollywood's beloved star stated that he taught her that "Instead of sitting on your hands and saying 'I can't do it again', find the courage inside of you in saying 'what can I do differently?'"
Learn to Own Up to Your Mistakes
In the same interview with 'Beer Biceps', she also stated that her father taught her to ensure that you own up to your mistakes. The actress talked about how he was an extremely sensitive yet courageous person, and that he taught her to look back on her mistakes, identify what is wrong, and promise yourself that you will not do it again. She stated she learnt to look back on her failures and not be afraid of them because of her father.
