It seeks, within three days, year-wise audited balance sheets, detailed income and expenditure statements, auditor reports, details of land purchases, bank account information and documents related to foreign contributions received under FCRA.

Speaking on Thursday, Sudhakar Singh said the move was not politically motivated. He said millions of devotees across the country had contributed to the temple's construction out of faith, making transparency in the use of funds essential.

He added that questions had recently been raised over land purchases and expenditure linked to the project, making accountability necessary.

In a press release, advocate Rajput said donations collected from the public are not the private property of trustees but funds held in public trust. He said transparency and accountability are legal obligations.

The notice cites provisions of the Indian Trusts Act, 1882, the Income Tax Act, 1961, the Uttar Pradesh Public Trusts Act and the Prevention of Money Laundering Act to support the demand.
