Massive King Cobra Discovery Sparks Panic in West Champaran Village
A household in Daruabari village, located under the Valmikinagar area of West Champaran district, was thrown into a state of extreme panic on Thursday when a massive 12-foot-long king cobra was discovered inside a bedroom. The incident has highlighted the increasing encounters between wildlife and human settlements in the region.
Terrifying Morning Discovery
According to forest officials, the snake was spotted in the residence of Khedu Mahto, leaving family members terrified and scrambling for safety. The discovery occurred when Mahto's wife was cooking in the morning and went to the bedroom for some work. Suddenly, she saw the enormous snake and, shocked by the sight, ran out screaming to inform everyone that a very large snake had entered the room.
The immediate reaction from the family was to lock the bedroom door from the outside, effectively containing the reptile while preventing any potential danger to household members. As news spread, people gathered around the house, with some identifying the snake as a highly poisonous king cobra, which only increased the anxiety among villagers.
Challenging Rescue Operation
Upon receiving the information, a team of forest personnel rushed to the spot and successfully rescued the reptile after what officials described as a challenging operation. The forest department team arrived promptly and managed to safely extract the king cobra from the confined space, preventing any harm to both the snake and the residents.
Valmikinagar ranger Satyam Kumar provided crucial insight into why such incidents are occurring with increasing frequency. "The search for food, mainly other snakes, forces king cobras to move from forest areas, particularly the Valmiki Tiger Reserve (VTR), into nearby human settlements," Kumar explained. He emphasized that this natural behavior often brings these majestic but dangerous reptiles into closer contact with people living on the periphery of protected forest areas.
Official Advice for Residents
Ranger Satyam Kumar urged residents not to panic when encountering wild animals and provided specific guidance for such situations:
- Maintain a safe distance from wild animals at all times
- Immediately inform the forest department instead of attempting to handle dangerous wildlife
- Avoid confronting or provoking any wild animal that enters human settlements
The successful rescue operation demonstrates the importance of proper protocol when dealing with wildlife encounters. The forest department's prompt response prevented what could have been a dangerous situation from escalating, while also ensuring the protected king cobra was safely removed from the residential area.
