Vijayawada: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Mangalagiri marked a significant milestone on Wednesday by inaugurating its dedicated department of AYUSH. This initiative underscores a strong commitment to promoting holistic healthcare through the seamless integration of traditional Indian systems of medicine with modern medical practices.

Formal Inauguration Ceremony

The department of AYUSH was formally inaugurated by AIIMS Mangalagiri’s Executive Director and CEO, Professor Dr. Ahanthem Santa Singh. The ceremony was attended by key officials including Professor Dr. Desu Rama Mohan (Dean, Academics), Dr. Rajashekar Mohan (Medical Superintendent), Colonel Sashikanth Thumma (Deputy Director, Administration), and Dr. Pushpanjali Akula (Medical Officer, Ayurveda).

Exclusive AYUSH Block

The newly inaugurated AYUSH block has been established as an exclusive facility dedicated to the disciplines of Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, and Homoeopathy. This reflects AIIMS Mangalagiri's unwavering dedication to integrating traditional systems of medicine with contemporary healthcare practices.

Dr. Pushpanjali Akula announced that the Ayurveda pharmacy and Panchakarma services will soon become operational. This will enable patients to access a wider range of evidence-based traditional therapies under one roof, enhancing the institute's holistic care offerings.

Future Plans and Expansion

Speaking to the media, Professor Dr. Ahanthem Santa Singh stated that AIIMS Mangalagiri is actively strengthening its AYUSH services. He confirmed that Yoga and Siddha disciplines will be introduced in the near future, further broadening the scope of traditional medicine available. Additionally, two more medical officers are expected to join the department of AYUSH soon, thereby enhancing the institute's capacity to provide comprehensive AYUSH healthcare services.

Proposed Sports Medicine and Geriatric Centers

Highlighting the growing interest in sports and the increasing number of cricket enthusiasts and athletes in Andhra Pradesh, the AIIMS ED announced plans to propose the establishment of a sports medicine centre. This facility would cater specifically to the healthcare needs of sportspersons. Furthermore, recognizing the rising life expectancy in India, AIIMS Mangalagiri also proposes to establish a geriatric medicine department. Together with the already existing Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PMR) department, these facilities are designed to serve the holistic needs of diverse patient groups across Andhra Pradesh and adjoining regions.
