Coimbatore witnessed a vibrant celebration of International Women's Day on Sunday, with private institutions, corporations, and community organizations hosting a series of events aimed at raising awareness about women's health and wellness. The city came alive with rallies, walkathons, and seminars that drew hundreds of participants, highlighting the crucial role of women in society.
Rallies and Walkathons Promote Women's Health Awareness
Private institutions in Coimbatore organized a rally and walkathon to emphasize the importance of women's health. In a significant show of solidarity, women police officers conducted an awareness rally at Race Course, underscoring the commitment of law enforcement to women's well-being.
The Jain International Trade Organization (JITO), in collaboration with Gem Cancer Centre and other NGOs, launched a national car rally to create awareness about thalassemia and cancer. This initiative spanned 10 locations across India, including Delhi and Surat. In Coimbatore, the event attracted over 100 women participants who traveled in approximately 60 cars, spreading the message of health vigilance.
Rao Hospital hosted the third season of the Endo March 5K Walkathon 2026, dedicated to raising awareness about endometriosis. March is recognized as Endometriosis Awareness Month, and this event saw more than 200 people participate. Coimbatore South MLA Vanathi Srinivasan, serving as the guest of honor, addressed the attendees, emphasizing the need for continued advocacy and support for women's health issues.

Private companies in Coimbatore actively contributed to the celebrations with events centered on women's health. Salzer Electronics Ltd organized a marathon under the theme 'Step Up for Wellness', which saw participation from more than 500 male and female employees. The Coimbatore International Airport also played a pivotal role by hosting a series of programs focused on women's health, wellness, and togetherness. These events were organized by Kalyanmayee, the women's association of the Airports Authority of India's Coimbatore unit. As part of the celebrations, VGM Hospital conducted a medical camp at the airport, providing health check-ups and consultations to attendees.
Seminar Empowers Women in Natural Farming and Holistic Health
A special International Women's Day seminar, jointly organized by the Save Soil Movement—an initiative by yogi and mystic Sadhguru—and KPR Institute of Engineering and Technology, called upon women to lead India's transition toward natural farming. Speakers highlighted women's instinctive connection with nature and their vital role in preserving soil fertility for sustainable agriculture.
The seminar, titled 'Home-Based Entrepreneur 2.0', was held at the KPR College campus and drew an impressive crowd of over 3,000 women participants from various districts. This day-long program offered comprehensive guidance on agriculture-based self-employment, natural farming practices, and value-added agribusiness opportunities, empowering women to become entrepreneurs in the agricultural sector.
Additionally, a special talk on 'Women's Health and Wellness' emphasized holistic approaches to health. The discussion covered the benefits of Ayurveda, effective stress management techniques, and healthy living practices, all aimed at ensuring overall well-being for women.
