Kolkata Minister Clarifies Annapurna Bhandar Eligibility

Kolkata: Women and child development and social welfare department minister Agnimitra Paul on Wednesday provided a comprehensive clarification regarding the eligibility criteria for the Annapurna Bhandar scheme. She assured that all individuals who have been receiving benefits under the Lakshmir Bhandar scheme will also be entitled to receive Annapurna Bhandar benefits. The minister emphasized that the transition would be seamless for existing beneficiaries.

Details on Deleted Names and Appeals

Paul addressed concerns about beneficiaries whose names were removed during the SIR (Social Identity Registry) process. She stated that those who have appealed to the tribunal against the deletion will continue to receive Lakshmir Bhandar benefits without interruption. The minister explained, "All those who were receiving Lakshmir Bhandar will receive Annapurna Bhandar. Among them, those whose names have been deleted, their names will be analyzed; their names will not be omitted immediately."

Paul further clarified the circumstances under which benefits would be discontinued. "One who has died will not receive Annapurna Bhandar. Those whose names have been deleted for any reason and, after the analysis, it is found that they are not citizens of this country, they will not receive Lakshmir Bhandar either," she said. This ensures that only eligible citizens continue to receive the benefits.

Appeals Process and CAA Beneficiaries

Regarding the appeals process, Paul noted, "Those who have appealed to the tribunal, whose names had been cut, they will continue to receive Lakshmir Bhandar. This is because they have appealed, they are in the process. Those who have appealed for CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act), they will also receive Annapurna Bhandar benefits. Their names will not be cut." This provision ensures that individuals with pending appeals are not deprived of benefits during the verification period.

Online Application and Scheme Launch

Paul also announced that all eligible individuals can apply for Annapurna Bhandar online. The state government is making necessary arrangements to introduce the scheme from June 1. This move aims to streamline the application process and ensure timely disbursal of benefits to the intended recipients.

The clarification from the minister brings clarity to thousands of beneficiaries who were uncertain about their eligibility for the new scheme. The Annapurna Bhandar scheme is part of the state government's efforts to provide food security and social support to the underprivileged sections of society.
