99 Children Treated for Clubfoot in Sirsa

On World Clubfoot Day, the District Civil Hospital in Sirsa organized a special awareness program in collaboration with the Anushka Foundation to educate the public about clubfoot, a congenital condition where a child is born with twisted or inward-turned feet.

Free Treatment and Awareness Initiative

Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr. Sandeep emphasized that early diagnosis and treatment can enable children with clubfoot to lead completely normal lives. He urged parents not to ignore the condition and to seek medical advice soon after birth. The treatment for clubfoot is provided free of charge every Tuesday at the Civil Hospital. Orthopedic specialist Dr. Kamal Beniwal treats affected children using a specialized casting technique, while the Anushka Foundation supplies special shoes and braces at no cost.

Success Story: 99 Children Treated

Dr. Sandeep announced that 99 children have been successfully treated at the hospital and are now living normal, active lives. This milestone highlights the effectiveness of the program.

National Child Health Program (RBSK) Impact

DEIC Manager Dr. Ankur shared that under the National Child Health Program (RBSK), 83 children in Sirsa district received free treatment for serious medical conditions during the 2025-26 financial year. These conditions included congenital heart disease, squint, neural tube defects, cleft lip and palate, and hearing impairment. Dr. Ankur noted that 11 mobile health teams are currently active across the district, visiting schools and anganwadi centers regularly to screen children and identify health issues or birth defects at an early stage. Children requiring treatment are referred to the District Early Intervention Centre (DEIC).

Appeal to Parents

Nodal Officer Dr. Bharat Bhushan appealed to parents to consult doctors immediately if they notice any abnormality in a newborn's feet. Timely treatment can prevent long-term disability and help children lead healthy lives. The program was attended by Dr. Bharat Bhushan, physiotherapist Dr. Vinod, other DEIC staff members, and parents of children undergoing treatment.
